30 things I have realized and noticed now that I am 30 (and soon turning 31!)
1. My Mother really DID know what she was talking about all those years I thought she was wrong!
2. Everything I did/said as a kid DOES come back around and bite me with my own kids!
3. At 30, my Mother's natural curly hair has started to really come out in my own head of hair! For 30 years it has been straight, now it curls up? What?
4. I have learned you do not have to be in your 40's-50's and menopausal for hormonal hot flashes and mood swings! It can start super early I learned! (The hard way)
5. I have learned that when my Mother said we were blessed because people in other countries are poor she meant it. I have seen it and I plan to return before I die.
6. I've learned that waking up at 3:30am everynight and eating Froot Loops probably isn't best for weight, and it's harder to shed pounds at 30 than it was at 20!
7. I've learned I really am my Mother. I look like her, laugh like her, and I love it! I'm finally not afraid to stand up and speak my mind.
8. I've learned that at 30 that my Mothers best friend was the BEST boss I ever had!
9. At 30, I no longer care what people think of me. I am me. Accept me or move along.
10. At 30, my Dad died 21 years ago but is still very alive in me. His brown eyes, and being onery. (Hahahha - oh yes!)
11. I have learned that sometimes God gives us more than we can handle so we can learn to depend solely on him!
12. I have learned that I don't go to church on Sunday because "thats what your supposed to do" - I go because I look forward to worshiping and loving our God. He is real! Better figure that out before its too late!
13. At 30 I read "Heaven is for Real" and wish it was a requirement to be read in schools. Everyone NEEDS to read it!
14. I have learned that Friday/Saturday nights I prefer to snuggle up at home with my kids and hubby and watch TV/Movie rather than be all dolled up in a club till wee hours of the night.
15. By 30 - you know who your real friends are and who just aquaintances are.
16. At 30, I have noticed that really good friends are other Mom's with kids and church going folk like us! (ok as well as my 9yr old's girlfriends parents! It's a win-win!) Love ya MK!
17. I have learned that my Mom wasn't a cheap skate or poor using coupons, she was BRILLIANT! Learned that I can go to Walmart and spend $384 and only pay $81 out of pocket with them!
18. At 30, I have learned that I love being a stay at home Mom/Wife. I really dislike working away from home and when I do work again, it will be for myself!
19. At 30- you begin to notice that you should take care of your body. It is God's temple and drinking, smoking, too much sun, junk food, etc are serious serious issues.
20. At 30, I have learned parents don't wanna parent. They want to be lazy. They allow kids to negotiate and make the rules. They want babysitters so they an get a break, BUCK UP AND DEMAND RESPECT! It has been months and months since we had a "date!"
21. By 30, you should really know what you want in a partner. Proud to say mine is a Christian and works his tail off. May not be everyone's choice.....but he is mine.
22. By 30 you realize your babies are not babies anymore. They really ARE only little once. I'd give my left arm to be able to rock them again! My daughters are growing and interested in boys. Scares me, I know what boys like. I do love that they talk to me about it though, I see when my Mom tried and it went in one ear and out the other. I hope they listen. I learned my son is my rock! He adores me. I now undertsand why Mother-N-Laws are hard to please. I will only let him date/marry 1 gal in particular (Love you Taylor) because I know she wont hurt him. Anyone else.....forget it!
23. By 30 you realize There is a new generation of young ones (teens/young adults) and they are not interested in checking you out. You begin getting looks from 'handsome" gentleman in their 30's-40's rather than young studs in their 20's. WIERD but TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!
24. At 30, you realize your no longer a smoking hot 20 something chick! Your not looking like them younger ones in the trends as hard as you try, (although I refuse to give up my Toms that the kids at Jr High are wearing, I love them!) your not smoking hot 21 yr old, you are 30.....a Mom and "pretty" or "classy".
25. I learned that at 16 I would offer to go to the grocery store. At 30, I dread it.
26. I learned that good friends, a good spouse and good family members are
those that do not try to hurt you, manipulate you, critisize you or compete with you. They love you and support you for being you! So blessed to have a spouse like that, some friends like that and some family like that. Those that have chosen to have done that, are missing the big picture in life.
27. I have learned that if you are materialistic or nuerotic, you better get it in check FAST! So much happier not being those anymore. I can trust those closest to me and I can stay home for a week with no power and feed 7 of us hot dogs and be ok!
28. I have learned that everything that was taboo as a teen (smoking, drinking, sex, drugs) was really way more hyped up than shoulda been. I pray my kids get that before they are 30! What is the point of smoking or drugs? Drinking should be as an adult at dinner or on vacation or here and there, not purposely going out and getting slosed till 4am so you can brag about a hangover! Geesh! Not sure why that was "cool" and glad I didn't take part in it! Sex, is biblical between and husband and wife. The rest is garbage in the media.
29. I have learned at 30, NAPTIME is a blessing. Young children do not cry, embrace it because as an adult, you beg to get a nap! I have learned that the older I get the more I am early to bed, early to rise even though I wish I could sleep in.
30. I have learned at 30 - that 30 is not just a number. It is the turn of a decade and the 29 previous statements are true. I look forward to 31 in a few weeks for several reasons but I will forever cringe that I'm no longer in my 20's - its another generation's turn! (Sniffle)
